Judging by the pictures from the protest, I would have to say that this is either an astroturf movement or a protest formed by illegals in the first place.
Constitutionally speaking, the states are the ones who have the authority to admit immigrants into their respective states, thereby admitting people into the Union. Article 1 Section 9 states:
The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a Tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person.Now, that is not to say that the Congress can not make changes to the law, however, judging by the state of immigration affairs today, I can tell you that they have probably royally messed it up. It definitely needs to be fixed, given the fact that Osama bin Laden can walk into the country from Mexico and get a job driving a cab in Los Angeles; and we would be none the wiser.
However, the Charlatans in the Democrat Party would have you believe that amnesty is the answer. Amnesty is not reform! It won't keep the bad guys out of this country any better than a three-foot high chain link fence stretched from El Paso to San Diego. In fact, the fence would work better!
The whole idea behind the concept of legal immigration is the basic principle of having the choice as to whether or not we let a specific person (or group of people) in! Maybe it's time we just ignore our elected Progressives when they campaign this year and just vote for the guys who actually want to protect us and the American way of life. I could stand to see the same disappointment on their faces that I saw on Martha Coakley's (I smiled watching her concede).
